Wood Turning Project: Garden Dibber (2)

Wood Turning projects such as this classic gardening tool, the dibber, puts us in touch with our history.

Move the tail center to one of the other marks made on the center line. wood turning project oval
Make sure the tool rest clears the wood. The offset will only be a little but it may seem dramatic at first. wood lathe tool rest position
Trun away part of the ghost. I use a blue sheet of foam under the lathe to see the ghost better. Remember not to turn away all of the ghose as this will just give you a atrange offset and round handle while we want an oval handle. wood turning project oval handle
Move the tail center to the other mark woodturning project oval handle
and repeat the process on the other side. This leaves a distinctly oval shape to the handle. Move the tail center back to the center mark and refine any beads as necessary. Sand now if necessary. lathe oval end
